The Olympic dreams of BMX riders all over the world could be one pedal closer in Adelaide when the Boost Mobile Freestyle BMX Invitational takes place at the 2023 VAILO Adelaide 500 in two weeks time.
In its second edition, the Boost Mobile Freestyle BMX Invitational has been sanctioned by AusCycling, which will allow riders to accumulate Olympic Qualification points, as well offering a prize purse of $50,000.
The Invitational will see the likes of international stars including newly crowned BMX World Champion Kieran Reilly (England) and 2022 BMX World Champion Rim Nakamura (Japan), America’s Daniel Sandoval, as well as Australian and four-time XGames medallist Jaie Toohey.
VAILO Adelaide 500 Chief Executive Mark Warren said he expects the BMX athletes will go ALL IN when they hit the track, providing entertainment for all event-goers, big and small.
“While we’re a world-class motorsport event, we’re proud to host the world’s most elite BMX athletes again this year and bring the best entertainment both on and off the track,” Warren said.
“Even more exciting this year is that most of the riders will be putting everything on the line as they chase Olympic Qualification points – thanks to AusCycling – it’s going to be a high flying spectacle, not to be missed.”
The BMX athletes will battle it out in a special competition that will test their skills across all five BMX disciplines: street, flatland, trials, vert and park.
Crowds can expect to see special air tricks on full display, including the tabletop, superman, superman seat grab, tail whip, bar spin, backflip, front flip, flair, decade, and many more.
Last year’s winner Brendan Loupos is keen to return and hold his claim as Adelaide’s BMX King.
“It was seriously amazing to take home the first ever win at last year’s Boost Mobile Freestyle BMX Invitational in Adelaide, and this year can only get better as we chase our Olympic dreams,” Loupos said.
“The line-up is impressive yet again, and I know we’ll put on a show for the guys and girls who come to check it out.”
Eventgoers are encouraged to head to the TrAction Zone or take a seat in the Heritage Grandstand across the four days of competition, to watch the Boost Mobile Freestyle BMX Invitational unfold.
