The 2024 VAILO Adelaide 500 and 25 Year celebration event was one of the biggest Supercars race events ever held on the Adelaide street circuit in terms of on-track action and off-track attractions.
An estimated 259,400 race fans flocked to Adelaide Parklands race track over the four-day event and witnessed some historic moments.
Here’s a recap on what happened in 2024 as we get ready for the 2025 edition.
TWO TITLES IN ONE WEEKEND
It was a feat that has never been achieved in Adelaide before – winning the Supercars championship one day and the VAILO Adelaide 500 title the next.
Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Will Brown did both in a historic achievement that may never occur in quite the same way again.
With the Supercars changing its championship points system in 2025, it may be the last time the top driver of the year will be judged by his performance across all rounds during the year.
Neither title is easy to win, so Adelaide race fans witnessed an incredible performance.
A CELEBRATION OF 25 YEARS
Fans embraced all there was to see and do at all corners of the Adelaide street circuit precinct at the 2024 event, which marked 25 years since the first Adelaide 500 was held on the unique race track.
All the usual talking points of an Adelaide race weekend on track – crashes on the tight street circuit, including Turn 8; blistering heat for drivers; and the Stadium Super Trucks support category – were back.
Off track, the circuit was packed with fan-favourite attractions, such as dirt bike racers and Air Force displays, as well as new attractions that are added to keep things fresh, such as the sprintcars.
COLD CHISEL & FRIENDS
One of the loudest cheers from race fans for the weekend was saved for when legendary rockers Cold Chisel hit the VAILO Adelaide 500 stage.
The band was almost as loud as the Supercars as they went all out to entertain the crowd, with frontman Jimmy Barnes holding the long notes in trademark style.
It was a worthy way to cap off a mega four days.
The concerts are one of the most popular aspects of the event that makes it more than just a car race but a mega festival that attracts all sorts of people to party in the same place.
ONE YEAR TO GO!
Next year’s Adelaide Supercars event is going to look a bit different – with even more racing and a nail-biting finish already guaranteed.
Supercars is introducing a new points format in which the 2025 champion will be determined at the Adelaide event, to be held November 27-30, 2025.
But it will no longer be 500km of racing – as well as the traditional 250km on each of Saturday and Sunday, a 100km race will be held on Friday.
It means fans will get Supercars races on three days instead of two, for a total of 600km of racing.
This year’s champion Will Brown says it will be an interesting event that no motorsport fan will want to miss.
“It’s going to be interesting. It puts a lot of pressure (on drivers) next year. I think it’s cool to change it up,” he says.
Four-day grandstand seats are already on sale via the new ADL Podium Club for those who do not want to miss out.
